Awesome link, James. Your friend will help me be clever, too.

Something I forgot to mention in the original post was the film RIP: A Remix Manifesto. It's being released as part of the open-source cinema movement.

http://www.ripremix.com/

Pay as little or as much as you like for the film. Remix it if you want. What's it about? Copyright. Sampling. Disney. Remix culture. Sharing.

With much shame, I admit I haven't seen it yet. I'll do that shortly...

Back when I was an academic/researcher in a previous life I worked with people who had a lot of opinions on copyrights/copywrongs.

We looked at it mostly from a music industry perspective for enterprises within the industry and also for podcasters and other related distributors of digital media.

One of the key havers of opinions and the bloke that helped me be clever is Andrew Dubber. His site that started inline with the research and carried on is here:

http://newmusicstrategies.com/tag/copyright/

That's the tag of all the posts related to copyright.

Andrew's is a good perspective to read around because his goal is to help small and mid sized music industry enterprises make money with online strategies. He is not adverse to getting rich but believes:

"Copyright law needs to be completely re-written.
There’s no use extending laws in blanket fashion when those laws are completely faulty in the first place."
